Heritage Sector Receives Renewed Funding Support
WHITEHORSE - The Yukon government is renewing its support of Yukon's heritage by funding $60,000 to the Heritage Training Fund through the Community Training Funds.
"The Heritage Training Fund will provide support for heritage workers pursuing training opportunities," said Education Minister John Edzerza. "This new Heritage Training Fund monies will benefit individuals and groups who play an important role in preserving and promoting Yukon's rich heritage."
Heritage workers, who are undertaking training opportunities to increase their skills and employability, will be able to apply to the Heritage Training Fund for financial support. As part of a two year agreement, the Heritage Training Fund will be administered by the Yukon Historical and Museums Association and funding allocations will be made by a committee of heritage sector representatives.
"The Yukon Historical and Museums Association is pleased to announce our new role within the Heritage Training Fund," executive director of the Yukon Historical and Museums Association Rebecca Jansen said. "The fund is consistent with our mandate to preserve, interpret and protect Yukon heritage. We look forward to providing Yukon heritage workers with the opportunity to enhance their skills while creating a more employable heritage workforce."
"The Yukon heritage sector is supported by a diverse and dedicated labour force, "Tourism and Culture Minister Elaine Taylor said. "Investing in heritage professional training is investing in the preservation and enhancement of our heritage and developing meaningful employment for Yukon people."
