New Board Members For Yukon Arts Centre
WHITEHORSE - Three new board members have been appointed to the Yukon Arts Centre Corporation Board, announced Tourism and Culture Minister Elaine Taylor.
"The Yukon Arts Centre has distinguished itself as an important community resource for artists and audiences alike, and we are pleased to announce these appointments which reflect the diversity and talents of Yukon people," Taylor said.
The board directs overall policy and governance of the centre which encompasses the performing and visual arts, arts education and cultural sector development.
Jackie Bazett, Josée Bélisle and Shirlee Frost will serve three-year terms. Duncan Sinclair and Michele Emslie were re-appointed for three years. The Yukon Arts Centre board of directors is made up of 12 individuals who represent diverse backgrounds and experience.
The appointments were selected from nominations forwarded by arts, community and business organizations, First Nations and municipalities.
The Yukon Arts Centre is responsible for the development and presentation of performing and visual arts. The centre's most recent annual report describes significant program increases for its twelfth season.
More than 21,000 people attended 100 ticketed events in 2004. Sixteen gallery exhibitions attracted 9,000 visitors. The centre, assisted by 130 volunteers, also reported an increase in community, education and outreach activities.
The Yukon Arts Centre is supported with $650,000 in annual operating funding from the Yukon government.
