Advanced Artist Award Supports Local Artists

WHITEHORSE - Funding for advanced Yukon artists will be provided to writers, musicians, visual artists, a filmmaker and an actor in the amount of $40,000, announced Tourism and Culture Minister Elaine Taylor.

"Our artists shape our imaginations, lever social change and define who we are as Yukoners," said Taylor. "Government is pleased to support their development at the emerging and advanced levels."

A local musician, Ivan Zenovitch will receive $5,000 toward recording his own music.

"I've been playing music for forty years," Zenovitch said. "Now, after all this time I have the opportunity to begin building tunes in the studio, to record my own original music and move onto centre stage."

Zenovitch thanked the Yukon government, and in particular the Arts Section with Tourism and Culture, for this opportunity. He will begin recording his own music in August.

The Advanced Artist Award Program is funded by Lotteries Yukon and is administered by the Department of Tourism and Culture. The program is assessed using the peer review process. This session the jury consisted of Patricia Robertson, Don Bishop, Sharon Shorty and Mario Villeneuve.
