Award Winning Yukon Film-Makers Pitching Projects In Banff

WHITEHORSE - A delegation of Yukon film-makers will be pitching new projects to national and international broadcasters and production companies at the Banff World Television Festival June 12-16.

"The Banff TV festival is an outstanding venue for aspiring producers to promote their projects," Yukon Film & Sound Commissioner Margarita Ramon said. "These can be career-making moments for Yukon producers as Banff offers valuable exposure to a wide audience of programming decision-makers, producers, financial executives and other industry representatives….and the Yukon has some amazing talent and projects to promote."

One member of the Yukon delegation is Werner Walcher, whose production of Dogs in Concert won Best Sound Editing and Best Overall Sound at Vancouver’s Leo Awards, which were held May 27 and 28, 2005.

"I'm really happy about winning the Leo Award," said Walcher. "Now I'm looking forward to the Banff International TV Festival where I hope to find partners for three new projects I'm working on. The festival is also about building relationships and showing the world that we have a very serious film industry in the Yukon with exciting and unique stories to tell."

Phil Bastien, Marten Berkman, Andy Crowther, Paul Davis, Arthur Mercredi, Allen Code and Carol Geddes are the other Yukon film-makers who complete the Banff delegation.

The Yukon contingent is a diverse collection of film-makers representing a number of production categories including animation, documentary, feature-film making and short subjects. Each member of the Yukon delegation has several projects they will be pitching to industry representatives.

The Yukon film industry is growing in a number of ways. Apart from the many commercials, documentaries and short films made here by outside producers, locally-made films are gaining deserved attention and accolades from international audiences.
