WHITEHORSE - Commissioner Jack Cable is pleased to announce the latest recipient of the Commissioner's Award for Public Service, Mr. Ron McFadyen.
"The letters of support for Ron's nomination were not only strong in their convictions, but amongst the most numerous we’ve ever received for a nominee," Commissioner Jack Cable said. "Ron has actively supported and promoted sports in the Yukon and I am honoured to be able to recognize his years of service with this award."
The Commissioner and McFadyen's supporters made a surprise presentation to him this morning at the Sport Yukon Building after getting him there under the pretext of a Canada Winter Games meeting.
A Yukon resident since 1969, McFadyen has worked in the Yukon media in many capacities, covering sporting and other events of importance across the territory. From the Arctic Winter Games to the visit of His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales in April 2001, he has been involved and providing an informative and positive approach that has endeared him to his audience far and wide.
The Commissioner's Award for Public Service recognizes people who have made a significant gift of their time and talents outside of their regular jobs. Recipients are nominated for the award by community members.
