WHITEHORSE - Territorial premiers are meeting in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories this weekend to discuss issues affecting the three territories under the theme "Working Together for Shared Success".
Yukon Premier Dennis Fentie, Northwest Territories Premier Joe Handley and Nunavut Premier Paul Okalik are meeting Saturday to discuss co-operative approaches on matters of mutual concern including the Northern Strategy and the upcoming Western Premiers' Conference.
"Working as a collective, we have achieved progress on issues of shared interest such as health care and formula financing," Fentie said. "It is this united approach that allows us to move forward on matters of importance to the North."
Agenda items also include the 2005 Diplomatic Forum, northern employment opportunities and sovereignty and security in the North.
This marks the third time the three premiers have met formally under the Northern Cooperation Accord, signed in Nunavut in 2003.
