Government To Establish A Francophone Directorate

WHITEHORSE - Premier Dennis Fentie has announced that the government of Yukon will soon establish a directorate of French language services.

"We have heard clearly from Glenn Hart and the francophone community in the Yukon that governance is a priority," Fentie said. "My government is acting on this priority. We will soon establish a directorate, and Glenn Hart will officially be the minister responsible for Francophone Affairs."

"We are extremely pleased that Premier Fentie and Minister Hart have acted on our request," Nicole Dion, president of Association Franco-Yukonnaise said. "A directorate will mean even greater collaboration between the territorial government and the francophone community. The association has worked closely with Minister Hart and we support his announcement as minister responsible for Francophone Affairs."

"The creation of a directorate will mean French language services, in priority areas the francophone community has identified, will have a greater profile in government programs and initiatives as funding allows," Hart said.

The government will consult with Association Franco-Yukonnaise on the implementation of the new structure.
