Alberta And Yukon Sign Energy Cooperation Agreement

WHITEHORSE - Alberta Premier Ralph Klein and Yukon Premier Dennis Fentie have signed an agreement for cooperation on oil, gas, and pipeline development. Under the agreement, Alberta and Yukon will work together in areas of common interest and coordinate strategies to support northern pipeline development.

The agreement focuses on four areas of cooperation: training, capacity building, developing northern energy resources, and regulatory matters related to pipeline development.

"Alberta and Yukon have a common interest in developing northern energy resources, particularly as northern pipeline projects move forward. We can work together on this issue, bringing a unified approach and ensuring the greatest benefits for our citizens," Klein said.

"Northern energy development is an exciting part of the Yukon's growing economy. Our oil and gas management will benefit from sharing the knowledge and experience of our counterparts in Alberta," Fentie said.

The agreement comes as a result of meetings held in June 2004 in Whitehorse and subsequent discussion the following month at the Western Premiers' Conference in Inuvik.
