WHITEHORSE - The 2005 Women's Forum brought more than 50 women from across the Yukon together to discuss women's safety.
The forum took place in Whitehorse March 18 and 19, and was sponsored by the Women's Directorate and organized by the Yukon Advisory Council on Women's Issues.
"The Yukon government is committed to safe, healthy communities. We’re pleased to support the forum and look forward to hearing the report on discussions," Minister John Edzerza said, speaking on behalf of Elaine Taylor, the minister responsible for the Women's Directorate.
The 2005 theme was 'women and safety', and included sub-topics of women and violence, women and health, employment, education and housing. Keynote speakers from Yukon and Ottawa spoke of their experiences at the UN Commission on the Status of Women meeting, which took place in New York City.
More than 50 women attended the forum, representing every women's organization in the territory and the majority of Yukon communities. Recommendations from the discussions will be forwarded to the Yukon government.
