Marsh Lake Receives New Fire Truck

WHITEHORSE - Community Services Minister Glenn Hart and staff from the Protective Services branch delivered a new, state of the art fire truck to the Marsh Lake fire department on Wednesday.

"This new fire truck is another investment in the safety of our communities," Hart said. "Having the right equipment can make all the difference in saving lives and property."

The $225,000 vehicle is a Crown Villager pumper truck manufactured by Fort Garry Industries of Canada. Specially engineered to operate in Yukon's winter conditions, the truck has self-deploying tire chains that engage with the flip of a switch by the driver and an enclosed cab to keep firefighters warm and protected during cold weather responses.

Thanks to mutual aid agreements, the truck will also be available to assist in neighbouring jurisdictions. Golden Horn, Mount Lorne, Ibex Valley, Hootalinqua and Marsh Lake fire departments and the City of Whitehorse have agreements in place to assist each other when required.

The Protective Services branch of Community Services is made up of Emergency Measures, the Fire Marshall’s office and Forest Fire Management. All three branches work together with other levels of government to prepare, train and ultimately respond to fires and other emergency situations that may occur in all regions of the territory.
