Yukon Archives Descriptive Database Easy To Access

WHITEHORSE - The Yukon Archives is now offering easy Web site access to descriptions of archival collections, Tourism and Culture Minister Elaine Taylor announced.

"For many living in rural communities like Dawson City and Old Crow, the search is immediate instead of having to travel to Whitehorse," Taylor said.

Web site browsers can now search the database from the comfort of their own homes by simply clicking under What's New? at http://www.yukonarchives.ca/.

The Archives Descriptive Database (ADD) is a tool similar to a library catalogue that provides access to descriptions of books and periodicals. The ADD allows users to identify areas of interest, search out relevant information and work with staff at the Archives to locate and retrieve relevant records.

The database does not provide access to digitized content such as photographs or original text documents. There is some digitized content available on the Yukon Archives Web site with more digitization underway. New or revised records are being uploaded into the database on a monthly basis.
