Government of Yukon passes Act to Amend the Dental Profession Act

Bill 7, the Act to Amend the Dental Profession Act, was passed after its third reading and was assented to today by Commissioner of Yukon Doug Phillips.

Once implemented, the amendments will permit dental hygienists to more fully use their training and qualifications in dental offices and in providing services to the Children’s Dental Program. The Act allows hygienists to provide basic services in advance of a patient being examined by a dentist and to provide some additional services as directed by a dentist.

The Act will be proclaimed once supporting amendments to the regulations have been finalized.

“Yukon families without regular access to a dentist rely on the Children’s Dental Program for their children’s dental care. Now we can allow dental hygienists to use the full range of their training and expertise in the program, and to provide the essential services that many families have depended on for more than 40 years.”
