School bus registration deadline extended to August 11

The Government of Yukon is urging Whitehorse parents to register their children for the school bus right away.

Less than half of the anticipated number of riders are currently registered. Some buses are already filling up. Government of Yukon staff need the registrations to determine how to adjust routes before school starts.

Parents can register their children for the school bus by filling out the registration form and emailing it to, dropping it off at the Government of Yukon’s Department of Education building at 1000 Lewes Boulevard, or faxing it to 867-667-8243.

“Getting the first day of school off to a good start begins with a bus ride for many students. Parents can help reduce first-day jitters by filling out their annual registration forms. There will be bus rides for every student who needs one. However, if buses fill up, some students will have to wait for new buses to deploy. We need all Whitehorse parents to fill out their forms to help prevent disruptions.”

Quick facts

  • Last year over 2,400 students rode the school bus. So far this year, less than 1,000 students are registered.
  • Bus routes change each year as families come and go, people move around and neighbourhoods change.
  • Safety requirements limit school bus capacity to two secondary school students or three elementary school students per seat. There are 23 seats on a bus.
  • Students should arrive at the bus stop 10 minutes early in the first couple of weeks of school.
