Government of Yukon makes donation to support those affected by B.C. wildfires

The Government of Yukon is making a donation of $25,000 to Canadian Red Cross to support evacuated residents affected by B.C. wildfires. This announcement was made at the Council of the Federation meeting in Edmonton yesterday.

The Government of British Columbia declared a state of emergency on July 8 in response to the wildfires, and has been fighting the fire under worsening conditions since.

The Government of Yukon’s contribution will support the Red Cross in its efforts to provide shelter and care for residents who have been forced from their homes.

“Our hearts go out to the people of British Columbia in the wake of these worsening fires. It is important in times like these that we come forward to help our friends and neighbours.”

–Premier Sandy Silver
