Hearing Services offers full complement of staff to better serve Yukoners

WHITEHORSE—With the recent hiring of two full-time audiologists, the Government of Yukon’s Hearing Services branch now has a full complement of staff who can offer services in English and French.

“Our department has been working diligently to recruit audiologists to Yukon,” Minister of Health and Social Services Mike Nixon said. “We are pleased to have a full team in our Hearing Services branch to help meet the hearing needs of Yukoners, including those who prefer to receive services in French.”

The audiologist position’s responsibilities include performing pediatric to geriatric diagnostic hearing assessments, selecting and dispensing hearing aids, aural rehabilitation, public education and providing services to healthcare professionals.

In addition to the two audiologists, the department recently created and filled a hearing administrative technician that is responsible for administrative duties, instructing clients on hearing aid use, trouble-shooting hearing aid problems and administering the newborn and Kindergarten screening hearing programs.

Over the next few months the branch will be able to reduce wait times for clients and offer clinics in communities outside Whitehorse.
