WHITEHORSE—The Miles Canyon Suspension Bridge will be closed from September 12 to October 31 for repairs.
“This work will ensure that the bridge will continue to enhance the quality of life for residents of Whitehorse for many years to come,” Minister of Community Services Currie Dixon said.
CMF Construction Ltd. was awarded the $288,243 contract to complete the bridge’s repairs in April.
In October 2015 a specialized inspection revealed that the bridge’s towers and suspension cables were in good condition, however, parts of the main wood structures had deteriorated. In April 2016, temporary repairs were made to the bridge so it could be reopened it in time for the summer season.
Signs and barricades will be put in place to prevent access until the repairs are completed.
