A statement from Yukon’s premier on Yukon’s latest Order of Canada member

WHITEHORSE—Premier Darrell Pasloski issued the following statement today:

“On behalf of all Yukoners, I would like to congratulate Geraldine Van Bibber on her appointment today as a member of the Order of Canada, one of our country’s highest civilian honours. I couldn’t think of anyone who is more deserving.

“Geraldine is being recognized for her commitment to Yukon as its 15th commissioner, and for her role in the development of the territory’s tourism industry.

“Born and raised in Dawson, Geraldine served as Commissioner of Yukon from 2005 to 2010 and was instrumental in founding the Yukon First Nation Culture & Tourism Association.

“She is also the current chancellor of Yukon College, is Dame of the Order of St. John, and has served as a director of many important organizations here in Yukon.

“This year’s recipients will be invited by the Governor General to accept their insignia at a ceremony later this year at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.”
