New award will recognize Yukoners’ achievements

WHITEHORSE—The Government of Yukon is establishing a new award to recognize Yukoners’ achievements. The Order of Yukon will be presented annually by the Commissioner of Yukon to honour Yukon residents’ significant accomplishments, dedication to the community and remarkable service.

“Having an Order of Yukon gives us a new way to publicly commend Yukoners who make an exceptional contribution to the wellbeing of society,” Premier Darrell Pasloski said.

The Order of Yukon will be in place in time for Canada’s 150th anniversary celebrations next year and up to three awards will be presented each year.

“Formally establishing an Order of Yukon will create an award that is equal to the highest honour in each of the other territories and provinces,” Pasloski added. “We think this is something that Yukoners deserve.”
