WHITEHORSE—Minister of Health and Social Services Mike Nixon will be in Vancouver for national meetings January 20 and 21.
On Wednesday, January 20, he will meet with his provincial and territorial colleagues. The agenda for the meeting includes discussion about managing and reducing prices of pharmaceuticals, ways to address mental health and substance abuse, newborn screening recommendations and challenges related to improving health status for Aboriginal peoples.
“Provinces and territories are responsible for delivering healthcare and are continuously developing and evaluating new ways to address the growing needs of Canadians,” Nixon said. “Our priorities remain to not only provide quality care, but also to achieve positive outcomes and receive good value for taxpayers’ dollars.”
On Thursday, January 21, provincial and territorial health ministers will meet with federal Health Minister Dr. Jane Philpott to discuss new priorities for federal-provincial-territorial work.
“There are some significant issues up for discussion at this meeting,” Nixon added. “I look forward to working with my colleagues on these important issues on behalf of Yukoners.”
