WHITEHORSE—Premier Darrell Pasloski will lead the Canadian delegation and represent all Canadian premiers at the 2015 Summit of North American Governors and Premiers on October 31 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The summit is jointly hosted by the National Governors Association, the Council of the Federation and the National Conference of Governors of Mexico.
“I am pleased to have this opportunity to attend the summit on behalf of Canada’s premiers and represent Canadian interests on an international stage,” Pasloski said. “A key focus of the summit will be jobs and investment, which are important issues for Yukon and for all Canadians.”
The summit provides an opportunity for premiers to meet with U.S. and Mexican state governors. The agenda will focus on three main topics: innovative infrastructure investment; North American economic innovation; and jobs and investment in North America.
“The U.S., Mexico and Canada are key trading partners, but the reality is that trade happens between states and provinces,” added Pasloski. “The summit will allow us to build relationships and gain greater insight into how to strengthen the North American economy.”
The Council of the Federation comprises all 13 provincial and territorial premiers. Through the Council of the Federation, premiers work collaboratively, form closer ties, foster constructive relationships among governments and show leadership on important issues that matter to Canadians.
In 2016, Premier Pasloski will take over as chair of the Council of the Federation – the first time a territory has been given this role – and will host the annual summer meeting of Canada’s premiers in Yukon.
