WHITEHORSE—The Government of Yukon will prioritize the installation of additional security cameras at the Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport parking lot, Minister of Highways and Public Works Scott Kent announced today.
“In August I directed officials to determine the costs and timelines to, at a minimum, install security cameras at the Whitehorse airport parking lot,” Kent said. “Recent incidents have demonstrated that this work is required to protect Yukoners’ property.”
The Yukon government is now working to finalize costs and technical details. Next steps and timelines will be determined once this work is complete. In the interim, the Yukon government will implement four parking lot security patrols per night.
“We will make our best efforts to keep Yukoners and their property safe,” Kent added. “But I also encourage all airport visitors to do their part by taking precautions to protect their vehicles.”
Travelers are reminded to avoid leaving visible or valuable items in parked vehicles.
