WHITEHORSE—The Yukon government has released the Housing Action Plan for Yukon.
“I am pleased to share the results of two years of hard work by the many organizations who gathered together to identify solutions to Yukon’s housing needs,” Premier Darrell Pasloski said. “This made-in-Yukon action plan will guide the territory’s housing priorities for the next decade.”
The Housing Action Plan brought together NGOs, the private sector, First Nations, social agencies and all levels of government to develop innovative solutions to help address Yukon’s needs.
“Thank you to the architects of the Housing Action Plan,” Minister responsible for the Yukon Housing Corporation Stacey Hassard said. “Diverse housing options are a springboard for healthy and stable communities. This plan considers changing demands for housing and how they will be addressed in the future.
Bill Thomas, co-chair of the Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition said: "The Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition very much appreciates that a Housing Action Plan is in place to develop more and different housing options for Yukoners across the territory. We look forward to getting to work."
The plan identifies a three-stage housing continuum – housing with services, rental housing, and home ownership – all three of which can be vital to Yukoners at different times in their lives.
“I want to acknowledge and thank the many thoughtful and compassionate people who contributed to the creation of the Housing Action Plan,” Yukon Housing Corporation Chair Janet Moodie said. "It is a blueprint for action that will guide the work of the Board and others over the coming decade.”
