Ross River School was closed today and all students and staff were sent home as a precaution after staff reported significant cracks in the walls. The school will remain closed on Monday, January 12.
The Department of Highways and Public Works advised the Department of Education that the school should be closed until an assessment could be completed. Structural engineers are scheduled to be on site Saturday morning to investigate conditions and report on building safety.
The Department of Education will reopen the school once it is told it is safe for students and teachers.
The closure affects approximately 50 students in kindergarten to Grade 12, and students attending the Yukon College Ross River Dene Cho Kê’endį campus.
