Volunteers and Olympic athletes recognized for their contributions

WHITEHORSE—Commissioner Doug Phillips will join members of the Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club tomorrow to celebrate sporting excellence and volunteer commitment.

Commissioner Phillips will be at the Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club on Tuesday, December 23 to participate in the unveiling of tribute signs honouring Yukon siblings Emily and Graham Nishikawa for their Olympic and Paralympic efforts in Sochi last February.

The Commissioner will then present Commissioner’s Awards for Public Volunteer Service to Linda Stratis and Nick Stratis of Whitehorse for their volunteer work in Yukon’s sport community.

“The selfless work of Linda and Nick Stratis epitomizes dedicated volunteerism,” Commissioner Phillips said. “Sports programs and communities across the territory have grown thanks to their decades of generous personal contribution.”

The ceremony at the Mount McIntyre Recreation Centre begins at 11 a.m. and will be followed by a short reception.
