WHITEHORSE—Premier Darrell Pasloski represented Yukon’s interest at a meeting of the federal, provincial and territorial finance ministers in Ottawa today.
“It was a productive meeting and at this time of global uncertainty, it’s imperative that we all work together,” Pasloski said. “We discussed our respective priorities and took stock of the evolving economic situation in Canada and internationally.”
Ministers noted that the Canadian economy continues to perform relatively well. While there are signs of broad recovery, weak global growth continues to weigh on the Canadian economy.
“All ministers agreed on the importance of measures that support job creation and spur economic growth at this time,” Pasloski added. “We discussed the need for sound fiscal management and investment in infrastructure – all things we are currently doing in Yukon.”
The ministers, who are preparing their next budgets, discussed best practices for promoting sustainable economic growth and addressing fiscal challenges such as debt reduction.
