Lotteries Yukon commemorates 40th anniversary with art competition

WHITEHORSE—Lotteries Yukon is commemorating its 40th anniversary with a competition, open to all Yukoners, to create a piece of artwork that is a creative expression and interpretation of the positive impact of lotteries in Yukon.

Four to six art pieces will be selected for purchase and display by Lotteries Yukon. Selection will be made by a jury comprising members of the organization and representatives from the local arts community.

“During the last 40 years, the Yukon Lottery Commission has reinvested more than $42 million into our communities for artistic, athletic and recreational endeavours,” minister responsible for the Yukon Lottery Commission Brad Cathers said. “This supports Yukoners in the pursuit of their dreams.”

Competition winners will be announced at a special event today at the Arts Up Front Festival.

“The arts in Yukon have flourished over the past 40 years through the creative efforts of gifted artists, effective arts organizations and appreciative audiences,” chair of Yukon Lottery Commission Heather Campbell said. “It is fitting that the Commission wishes to use the power of art to celebrate.”

Seven community events are being held across Yukon to mark the 40th anniversary of lotteries in Yukon. Local organizations in Dawson City, Faro, Carcross, Watson Lake and Whitehorse are hosting the events.
