Youth Directorate funds 24 youth-focused projects

WHITEHORSE—The Youth Investment Fund (YIF) has contributed approximately $60,000 toward 24 projects to benefit youth in Yukon this summer.

“Supporting projects that champion the development of social and cultural leadership in our youth is an investment in Yukon’s future,” premier and minister responsible for the Youth Directorate Darrell Pasloski said.

The Youth Investment Fund supports short-term community-driven initiatives throughout Yukon, addressing the needs and interests of youth under 19 years of age. Funded projects aim to promote self-esteem or create social or recreational opportunities.

"U Kon Echelon Cycling Club would like to thank the Youth Investment Fund for providing $2,700 to support our U Kon Youth Engagement Project,” head coach and treasurer Trena Irving said. “This project benefits tremendously from the funding by YIF, allowing youth to participate in a safe cycling exercise and skills program at a reduced cost. Our program is offered by youth and adults in positive mentorship roles."

Sponsored by the departments of Education, Community Services, Health and Social Services and Justice, the next intake is October 1 for applications ranging from $501 to $5,000. Applications to the fund for amounts up to $500 can be submitted at any time.
