WHITEHORSE—Premier Darrell Pasloski and Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources Scott Kent will be in Dawson City this weekend to attend the 28th Dawson City International Gold Show.
“There are few regions in the world where gold mining has played such a significant role not just economically, but historically,” said Pasloski. “Each spring, the Gold Show provides an excellent opportunity to connect with Dawson’s business and mining communities, as well as celebrate our past and the continuing strength of the placer mining industry. Thank you to the Dawson City Chamber of Commerce for showcasing the economic vitality of the Klondike.”
Production of placer gold in Yukon has increased over the last two years. The total production in 2013 was 59,462 crude ounces, which equates to a production value of US$63.2 million. There are currently 142 active placer operations in Yukon.
“The Yukon government would like to thank all placer miners, past and present, for their contribution to the territory’s economy and culture,” Kent said. “Placer mining provides invaluable support to other local businesses, and is the economic foundation for many of our communities.”
The Dawson City International Gold Show takes place May 16-17.
