Yukon celebrates Journée de la francophonie yukonnaise

WHITEHORSE— The eighth annual Journée de la francophonie yukonnaise (Yukon Francophonie Day) is being celebrated today with the launch of the new Bonjour Yukon logo and the presentation of the French language talent show Secondaire en spectacle.

“Yukon Francophonie Day is an opportunity to celebrate the richness of our Francophone community,” Minister of Education and Minister responsible for the French Language Services Directorate Elaine Taylor said. “In celebration, the Yukon government together with the Association franco-yukonnaise is pleased to launch the Bonjour Yukon logo, the symbol of an active offer of French language services in Yukon.”

The Bonjour Yukon logo marks the beginning of an active offer awareness campaign. Various visual and promotional tools have been developed for use by communities, businesses and organizations. For more information, individuals can contact the French Language Services Directorate or the Centre de la Francophonie.

“The Bonjour Yukon logo – which identifies places where services are offered in French, within the government of Yukon but also within community organizations and the private sector – is another good example of the French community and government working together successfully,” president of the Association franco-yukonnaise Angélique Bernard said.

A talent show featuring performances by students from F. H. Collins Secondary School, Porter Creek Secondary School, Vanier Catholic Secondary School and L’Académie Parhélie is also being held at the Yukon Arts Centre. Secondaire en spectacle is presented in partnership with French for the Future, a national not-for-profit organization that supports and motivates students on their path towards bilingualism.
