Carcross Local Area Plan approved by Yukon government

WHITEHORSE—The approval of the Carcross Local Area Plan was announced today by Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources Scott Kent and Carcross/Tagish First Nation Khà Shâde Héni Dan Cresswell. The plan will guide the Yukon government and the Carcross/Tagish First Nation (CTFN) in creating development regulations for the Carcross area.

“We are pleased to approve the Carcross Local Area Plan as it will provide a 20-year development guide that will maintain the rural residential character of the area while providing a vision for growth,” Kent said.

The Carcross Local Area Planning Committee recommended the plan for approval on June 17, 2013 and the joint Yukon government and CTFN technical review of the plan was concluded on September 17, 2013. CTFN formally indicated their support for the plan on October 18, 2013.

“We commend Carcross residents and the Carcross Planning Committee for their hard work and diligence over the last several years,” Cresswell said. “We can now work together on the development of new zoning regulations as detailed in our final agreements.”

The Carcross Local Area Plan is a requirement of the CTFN Self-Government Agreement.
