WHITEHORSE—Whitehorse Correctional Centre (WCC) is hosting an information session on Friday, March 28 from 3 to 6 p.m. to share information about the facility with the public.
“WCC has some very progressive programming for inmates,” Minister of Justice Mike Nixon said. “This is an opportunity for the public to learn more about those programs, see some of the work that inmates are doing, and ask Correctional Services staff about their jobs.”
Visitors will be able to speak with WCC staff about inmate programming and the day-to-day operation of the facility. Corrections Officers will also be on hand to talk about their jobs and the training required to work at the facility. Light refreshments prepared by the WCC kitchen staff will be served. Please note that this event will be held in the main foyer and does not include a tour of the correctional centre.
This is the first time WCC has hosted this type of event. The new facility was completed in 2012, replacing the previous correctional centre that was built in 1967.
