Yukon Housing Corporation sponsors contractors’ breakfast workshops

WHITEHORSE—The Yukon Housing Corporation is once again hosting its popular breakfast workshops for tradespeople in the construction sector.

The morning workshops provide professional instruction on a variety of topics related to new home construction in Yukon. Topics include wood-burning appliances and chimneys, the gas heating appliance code, and energy options for residential heating systems.

“Professional development and information sharing is vital for tradespeople to remain current with the evolving construction industry,” Minister responsible for the Yukon Housing Corporation Brad Cathers said. “Between the trades courses offered at Yukon College and these educational sessions offered by Yukon Housing Corporation, best efforts are being made to improve professional development in the area of construction trades.”

Proper design and engineering for heating systems ensure safe, effective home heating and are just as important as ensuring proper drainage away from a house’s foundation.

“An objective in Yukon Housing’s Strategic Plan is to promote the transfer of improved housing technology and design alternatives through demonstration projects, training and sharing of knowledge and resource materials,” Cathers added.

Breakfast workshop details and dates are available through local newspaper ads or the Yukon Housing Corporation website.
