WHITEHORSE—The Yukon Energy Corporation’s Whitehorse Diesel-Natural Gas Conversion project has been designated as a regulated project under the Public Utilities Act, Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources Scott Kent said today.
This means the project will be submitted to the Yukon Utilities Board for public review.
“By sending this project to the Yukon Utilities Board, Yukoners will have another opportunity to review it and learn more about this important initiative,” Kent said. “Using natural gas as an energy source will help reduce diesel consumption and will improve the reliability of our backup power system to more adequately meet our growing energy demands.”
The project proposes to replace two aging diesel generators in 2014 with newer, more efficient natural gas fired engines. A third natural gas generator could be added in the future if required.
