Consolidated services for rural community land management and development

WHITEHORSE—Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources Scott Kent and Minister of Community Services Brad Cathers today announced changes to land management, planning and development that will improve services to rural Yukon.

“Consolidating these services within the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources will promote greater coordination of rural land development projects during all stages of the process,” Kent said. “It will also ensure the required synergies are in place between land management and development staff within government to build stronger partnerships with rural communities now and in the future.”

The plan will include transferring some programs and staff from the Department of Community Services to the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources. Details of the program transfer are now being developed. There will be no impact on employment levels from the transition.

“Centralizing land planning and land management in one department is an important action resulting from our efforts to continue to improve services to Yukon citizens and rural communities,” Cathers said.
