Yukon tables insured health-care legislation

WHITEHORSE—Amendments to the Health Care Insurance Plan Act were tabled today in the Yukon Legislative Assembly.

The amendments will make it clear to Yukoners what the requirements are for maintaining Yukon health care, including coverage when they are away from the territory.

“We appreciate the input we received from Yukoners through the recent public engagement process,” Minister of Health and Social Services Doug Graham said. “We will use this information carefully to put forward the best regulations to meet Yukoners’ needs.”

Nearly 1,600 people provided online and written input during the July 15 to August 30 public participation period indicating their support and interest in the future of Yukon’s health-care system.

The regulations will be developed over the next few months and are anticipated to come into force in the spring of 2014.
