Yukon’s new health privacy and management legislation tabled

WHITEHORSE—A new Health Information Privacy and Management Act was tabled in the Yukon Legislative Assembly today.

The act will help protect personal health information while also ensuring Yukon health-care providers have the information they need to provide optimal care.

“We want to make sure we protect Yukoners’ personal health information,” Minister of Health and Social Services Doug Graham said. “This legislation will set out appropriate ways information can be shared to better support health services.”

Health and Social Services has worked collaboratively with Yukon’s health professionals over the past several years on the draft legislation.

The Yukon Information and Privacy Commissioner has also provided important feedback on the legislation. Work continues on the development of regulations prior to the implementation of the act.
