Adding capacity will assist with local area planning initiatives

WHITEHORSE—The Land Planning branch now has another planner to help address an active local area planning agenda, Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources Brad Cathers announced today.

“The Land Planning branch has recruited an additional land use planner to increase its overall capacity in developing and amending local area plans and zoning regulations for Yukon communities and rural areas,” Cathers said.

Land planning initiatives currently underway include:

  • Marsh Lake and Carcross Local Area Plans—These planning processes are supported by First Nations, the two communities and the Yukon government. Plans are expected to be finished this year.
  • West Dawson and Sunnydale Local Area Plan—The Yukon government and the Tr’ondëk Hwëch'in steering committee are in the final stage of a joint local area planning process.
  • Fox Lake Local Area Plan—The Land Planning branch, Ta’an Kwäch’än Council and Kwanlin Dün First Nation are working together on this joint planning process. A steering committee will be formed to work with residents and government on this local area planning project.
