Yukon youth to benefit from $100,000 investment

WHITEHORSE—Yukon youth will benefit from approximately $100,000 of support from the Yukon government’s Youth Investment Fund in 2013/14, subject to legislative approval. Projects supported in 2012/2013 include a youth conference, an after-school sports program, a tutoring program and a jigging club.

“Investing in our youth, and Yukon communities, is important and all of these projects are well worth our continued support,” Premier and Minister responsible for the Youth Directorate Darrell Pasloski said. “I would encourage organizations involved with youth to apply for a portion of this year’s Youth Investment Fund for projects they would like to implement. I am confident we will see a number of exciting initiatives as a result.”

Since the fund’s inception in 1995, 596 projects have been supported. Sponsored by the departments of Education, Health and Social Services, Justice and Community Services, the Youth Investment Fund is administered by the Youth Directorate and supports short-term community-driven initiatives throughout Yukon, addressing the needs and interests of youth under 19. Community groups can apply for up to $5,000 twice per year.

The next deadline for applications is April 2, 2013.
