WHITEHORSE—Federal, provincial and territorial (FPT) agriculture ministers and deputy ministers are meeting in Whitehorse September 12 to 14. The meeting is co-chaired by Yukon’s Energy, Mines and Resources Minister Brad Cathers and Canada’s Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Gerry Ritz.
“I am pleased to host this year’s annual agriculture meeting in Whitehorse and extend a warm welcome to all delegates and panel presenters arriving in Yukon,” Cathers said. “Over the course of the meeting we will hear from a range of agriculture industry representatives and our goal is to reach consensus on the new framework agreement for Growing Forward 2.”
The five-year Growing Forward policy framework agreement expires March 31, 2013. Federal, provincial and territorial (FPT) governments have been working to engage agriculture stakeholders to develop a successor agreement.
“Growing Forward is very important for Yukon and has been very successful,” Cathers added. “Yukon’s agriculture industry is an important part of the territory’s economy and contributes significantly to our quality of life.”
Conference themes include discussions on food processing, risk management tools and trade and market access.
