WHITEHORSE—Yukon youth will benefit from a contribution of almost $53,000 from the Youth Investment Fund that will support 21 projects across the territory.
“The Yukon government is very pleased to support this range of projects that will enrich the lives of young people in Yukon,” Premier Darrell Pasloski said. “Helping our youth develop important life skills and have access to a range of opportunities is one of the best investments we can make in Yukon’s future.”
Supported projects include a therapeutic riding program, a dance teacher training program, a culture camp, a girls club, a youth art enrichment project, and a bike camp. These projects will take place in a number of communities including Carcross, Carmacks, Dawson City, Faro, Pelly Crossing and Teslin.
Sponsored by the departments of Education, Health and Social Services, Justice and Community Services, the Youth Investment Fund supports short-term community-driven initiatives throughout Yukon, addressing the needs and interests of youth under 19 years of age.
Community groups can apply for up to $5,000, twice per year. Since the fund’s inception in 1995, 584 projects have been supported. The next deadline for applications is October 1.
The Youth Directorate’s goals are to increase youth awareness and involvement in programs throughout Yukon, help youth contribute to their communities and improve the health of Yukon youth. For more information visit the Youth Directorate.
