New regulation now in effect for management and use of government facilities

WHITEHORSE—As of May 1, the Government of Yukon’s Facilities Use Regulation will be in effect. The new regulation clearly outlines prohibited activities on Yukon government-owned or leased property.

“We are pleased to see this regulation come into effect,” Highways and Public Works Minister Wade Istchenko said. “It will provide us with the right tools to manage, protect and ensure the proper use of government facilities.”

This regulation addresses situations that could restrict public access, jeopardize health and safety, create damage, increase government liability, or compromise the integrity of public institutions.

“The Government of Yukon is committed to keeping government facilities safe and accessible to all,” Istchenko added. “This regulation will increase the public’s safety by defining appropriate use of government facilities without infringing on the individual’s right to peacefully assemble.”

The regulation is available on the Highways and Public Works website.
