Commissioner to launch Diamond Jubilee book of congratulations

WHITEHORSE—On the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Commissioner Doug Phillips will launch a book of congratulations at the New Year’s levee.

“The Diamond Jubilee marks the 60th anniversary of the Accession to the Throne by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and is being celebrated internationally during 2012,” Phillips said. “The launch of this book of congratulations marks the beginning of events to be held throughout the year in honour of Her Majesty’s historic achievement.”

The book will remain in the Government of Yukon Administration Building in Whitehorse for several months to provide Yukoners with an opportunity to write congratulatory messages to the Queen, acknowledging 60 years on the throne.

There will be additional opportunities for citizens outside of Whitehorse to add congratulatory messages when pages from the book are made available to each Yukon community. The congratulatory book will be sent to Her Majesty next fall.

“I encourage all citizens to celebrate this historic anniversary and to participate in celebratory events as they are scheduled over the coming months,” Phillips said.

A photographic exhibit chronicling Yukon visits by the royal family will be on display at the levee.
