WHITEHORSE—Yukon youth are benefiting from a contribution of almost $53,000 towards 16 projects through the Youth Investment Fund.
Projects include an after school sports program in Whitehorse, male and female high performance hockey camps in Haines Junction, a youth conference and job fair in Mayo, an art enrichment project in Dawson City, a youth-coached figure skating program, and group violin classes taught by youth.
“I am pleased by the wide range of projects being supported through the Youth Investment Fund,” Premier and Minister responsible for the Youth Directorate Darrell Pasloski said. “These projects help to support Yukon youth by encouraging them to participate in fulfilling activities that enhance their communities.”
Sponsored by the departments of Education, Health and Social Services, Justice, and Community Services, the Youth Investment Fund supports short-term, community-driven initiatives throughout Yukon, which address the needs and interests of youth under 19 years of age.
Community groups can apply for up to $5,000 twice a year. Since the fund’s inception in 1995, 563 projects have been supported. The next intake deadline is April 2, 2012.
The Youth Directorate’s aims are to increase youth awareness and involvement in programs throughout Yukon, help youth contribute to their communities and to improve the health of Yukon youth. Visit the Youth Directorate for more information.
