WHITEHORSE—Preliminary work on the F.H. Collins Secondary School construction project was celebrated today when Premier Darrell Pasloski and Education Minister Patrick Rouble unveiled a new sign announcing the work.
“It is an honour to celebrate this milestone with our partners, who have contributed countless hours advising on this project to help ensure it supports the community’s unique learning needs,” Pasloski said.
Preliminary site preparation is being conducted by Canyon City Contractors, a solely owned corporation of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation. The work will allow construction to begin in the spring. The project is expected to be completed by September 2013.
“The new school will incorporate 21st century design features to support the ongoing evolution of teaching and learning in the decades to come,” Rouble said. “The school design reflects recommendations from the One Vision, Multiple Pathways Secondary School Programming Review Report, our multi-stakeholder Building Advisory Committee, and best practices as recognized by experts in North American education.”
The project budget is approximately $52.5 million. The building’s energy efficient design will meet the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification standards.
