WHITEHORSE—Ketza Construction Corporation of Whitehorse has been awarded a contract to expand the Valleyview water reservoir.
“As Yukon continues to grow, the Yukon government continues to plan for the future,” Community Services Minister Archie Lang said. “Increasing water demands due to new housing in the Whistle Bend subdivision has called for the increased capacity of this reservoir.”
The tender period for this contract closed on May 26. The successful low bid is valued at $6,637,600. Work is expected to commence this month and will be completed by June 30, 2012.
Included in the contract are the construction of a new reservoir and modifications to the existing reservoir.
The development of the Whistle Bend Subdivision is well underway. When completed, Whistle Bend will accommodate upwards of 8,000 residents in nearly 3,900 housing units. Land lotteries for the first lots are tentatively scheduled for the fall of 2012.
