Governor General to visit Yukon

Premier Dennis Fentie will have the honour of hosting Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston at a formal dinner during the evening of February 9.

His Excellency will also address MLAs in the legislative assembly.

These events will be held during Their Excellencies’ first official visit to Yukon beginning February 9 and lasting four days. The Yukon visit will be the sixth official visit conducted by the Governor General since his installation on October 1, 2010.

“We are pleased to welcome Governor General David Johnston and Mrs. Sharon Johnston to our territory,” Fentie said. “It is a particularly special time to be in Yukon as this is a month of community festivals, dog sled races, extreme outdoor challenges and national hockey events. I’m certain that all Yukoners will join with me in wishing our distinguished visitors a memorable stay."

In addition to participating in a number of scheduled events in Whitehorse, Their Excellencies will travel to Dawson City and Old Crow.
