Open call for submissions for Yukon Permanent Art Collection

WHITEHORSE – An open call for submissions for the Yukon Permanent Art Collection has been announced.

“The Permanent Art Collection contributes in a very significant way to Yukon’s cultural legacy,” Tourism and Culture Minister Elaine Taylor said. “Having artists’ work in the collection is also an important step in artists’ professional development and recognition of their contribution to visual arts in Yukon.”

To help artists prepare submissions, the Friends of the Gallery, the Department of Tourism and Culture and the Yukon Art Society are offering a free drop-in session on December 4 at Arts Underground. A professional photographer will be available to photograph artwork, as well as curators to assist with artist statements and résumés.

“The purpose of the session is to ensure that artists present their work in the best light possible,” Friends of the Gallery secretary Mary Bradshaw said. “By providing support through the application process, we will receive better quality submissions and the adjudication process will be fairer. Even if their work is not selected for the collection, artists can use the images for other opportunities such as grant applications or gallery submissions.”

The Yukon government supports the continued acquisition of artwork for the Permanent Art Collection through an annual contribution of $25,000 to the Friends of the Gallery. The deadline for submissions to the Permanent Art Collection is December 10.

For more information on the Permanent Art Collection call for submissions, visit or call the arts curator at 667-5858 or 1-800-667-0408,
