Our Towns, Our Future review launched today

WHITEHORSE – The official launch and first meeting of the Yukon-wide Our Towns, Our Future review was celebrated today by Community Services Minister Archie Lang and Association of Yukon Communities (AYC) vice-president Elaine Wyatt.

“The Our Towns, Our Future review will look for innovative and cost effective ways to support strong and sustainable municipalities,” Lang said.

Mayors and councillors from across Yukon participated in the first meeting and provided input into the process. The review is in response to concerns put forward to the minister by Yukon municipal governments about important issues including funding levels, infrastructure deficits and recruitment and retention.

“The Association of Yukon Communities is looking forward to providing practical and realistic recommendations that address municipal concerns to Minister Lang at the conclusion of this process,” AYC president Bev Buckway said.

Our Towns, Our Future is being led by the Municipal Fiscal Framework Review Committee, comprising of senior members of Yukon government and representatives from the Association of Yukon Communities and municipal governments in Yukon.
