WHITEHORSE – A collaborative partnership between the Government of Yukon and the City of Whitehorse has resulted in a wide range of new building lots in the new Ingram subdivision.
Forty single-family lots, priced from $76,000 to $110,000, will be offered by lottery. The multi-family lots will be sold by tender as the current regulations do not permit multi-family lots to be sold by lottery. The tendered parcels include nine multi-family lots, four duplex lots and 14 development sites for 72 townhouses.
“This government is working to make land available,” Community Services Minister Archie Lang said. “Lot prices have been set at a rate that blends the cost of development with market value.”
Yukon government and the City of Whitehorse have a land development protocol in place that guides the development of land in the city. The municipal zoning designations for the neighbourhood and variety in lot sizes will help to meet a wide range of housing needs and the overall objective of increased density.
“The wide range of lots available ensures that Yukoners interested in owning their own home will have a variety of options,” Energy, Mines and Resources Minister Patrick Rouble said.
“The City of Whitehorse is pleased to have worked in partnership with the Yukon government on the Ingram development,” said Mayor Bev Buckway. “Providing places for our citizens to live and raise their families in a sustainable fashion remains a priority of the city.”
In recent years Yukon government has acted as the developer for the Copper Ridge, Arkell and Whitehorse Copper subdivisions. The next large development of residential lots in Whitehorse is Whistle Bend, another partnership with the City of Whitehorse. Development is underway and Phase 1 lots will be made available to the public in fall 2012.
