WHITEHORSE – A new Women’s Directorate website in French was launched today to mark the fourth Journée de la francophonie yukonnaise (Yukon Francophonie Day).
Glenn Hart, Minister responsible for the French Language Services Directorate and Marian C. Horne, Minister responsible for the Women’s Directorate, today unveiled the new French website together at a special open house event.
“We are pleased to bring another Yukon government website online for the benefit the Francophone community,” Hart said.”The French language Women’s Directorate website will enhance access to important programs aimed specifically at women.”
The translation of the Women’s Directorate site is part of the French language website strategy the French Language Services Directorate (FLSD) started implementing at the beginning of 2010.
“It is essential that all women are able to access these beneficial services through the Women’s Directorate equally, regardless of language barriers,” Horne said. “Partnering with the French Language Directorate helps us to achieve this goal.”
Since 2007, the Yukon government has placed a high priority on translating departmental information to further communicate and inform the public of its programs and services.
Journée de la francophonie yukonnaise celebrations are organized jointly by FLSD and the Association franco-yukonnaise. The FLSD will host an open house event, on the third floor of 305 Jarvis Street, to celebrate and highlight the implementation of French language services and the Francophones’ contributions to the development of Yukon.
